Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained by the world. - James 1:27

When Jews celebrate the Passover, they always tell the story of the Exodus in present terms, as if they themselves experienced those events: when we were prisoners in Egypt; when God brought us out of slavery and through the waters of the sea. We would do well to follow their example and see the works of Jesus and his sacrifice as being in the present, as happening to us now. We believe that Christ’s work, his teachings, and his sacrifice on the cross were not just for his followers in the past, but for all people at all times. When we think of this in our prayers, we become one in faith with that great cloud of witnesses, the saints.  […]

2019 ANNUAL MINISTRY APPEAL – “Bridges of Hope – Go in Peace to Love and Serve the Lord

We thank everyone who has taken the time to reflect on the gifts God has given them and made a decision to support our AMA appeal. 251 of our 2,080 registered families have pledged $59,768.24 toward our Diocesan goal of $34,400.00. That’s 12.06% of our registered families. Our families, our homes, our health, and everything we possess are gifts from God. Your pledge of financial support recognizes God’s supreme generosity and is the spirit of true Christian Stewardship. As a parishioner in Sacred Heart Church, and as a parishioner of the Diocese of Monterey, we thank you for helping us to meet this challenge. […]

It is not hard to imagine, in this age of wars, evil groups bent on the destruction of humanity, and political follies, that the words of Saint Paul were so accurate, even for his time. It seems that the world never changes. Paul says, “Many . . . conduct themselves as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is their destruction . . . Their minds are occupied with earthly things” (Philippians 3:18, 19). The result is the destruction of innocent people and of the Earth itself. But Paul says to the Philippians, “our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we also await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (3:20). He will “change our lowly body to conform with his glorified body” (3:21).

Dear Sacred Heart School Families,

I am writing to you today to inform you that our principal, Connie Rains, has decided to retire at the end of this school year. Mrs. Rains has been principal of Sacred Heart School for the past 5 years. In that time, she has helped grow and stabilize enrollment, open our new preschool, create a strong link between the school and parish and many other remarkable accomplishments. As a Sacred Heart alumni and active parishioner, Mrs. Rains has been a true blessing to our school community. Please join me in thanking Mrs. Rains for her service to Sacred Heart. We wish many blessings upon her as she enters a new phase of life in retirement.

I understand the uncertainty that a change like this brings to our community. However, I have faith in our Lord, our administrative team, the faculty, staff and you that we can come together to continue our mission. Thank you for your continued trust and support of Sacred Heart School.

Sincerely yours in Christ, Father Manuel Recera, Pastor

Dear Faithful Parishioners,

This is part of the letter I sent to my school families…I’d like to share part of it with you, as well…
It is with a true sadness that I write this letter to all of you who hold a very special place in my heart.  In my over 45 years in the education field, I will honestly say that my last 5 years at Sacred Heart School have been my most joyful and rewarding.  I never knew that coming to a Christ-centered place to work each day would make changes in my own life and show me how good the world can be…  I will miss the hugs and smiles from your children and the kind greetings from all of you, but after much thought, I know this is right and I am ready to start a new chapter in my own life. I know that I will leave you in very capable hands with a dedicated school and parish staff who care about your children greatly.  Father Manny and Mrs. Cheng, our superintendent, will be placing the right person in my place-someone who I know will love your children as much as I do. I will hold these next few months very preciously in my heart knowing that the change will come soon.  As a parishioner and alum, I am hoping to stay at Sacred Heart in some smaller capacity because it is difficult to say goodbye since SHS has been part of me since I attended here.  Please keep the school, my family and me in your prayers and remember you will ALWAYS be very special to me!

Blessings in Christ and Much Love, Mrs. Rains

The 2020 pilgrimage to Oberammergau may sound a long way off, but the time to make reservations is now! The Passion Play is only presented every ten years, and many travelers want to see it. We have less than 20 seats still available for our group. For more information about this opportunity, please save March 25th at 7:00 pm. Alexander from Collette Travel will be in the parish hall to tell us all about this once-in-a-lifetime trip.

The 2019 Annual Ministry Appeal began this week with letters mailed from the diocese to past donors (2015-2018). This appeal is an opportunity to join the communal efforts of 250,000+ Catholics in the Central Coast to support the ministries of the Diocese of Monterey.

Your generous gift to the 2019 Annual Ministry Appeal will help support those in need and provide support and services to our brothers and sisters in Christ, building Bridges of Hope.

Please prayerfully consider your gift to this years’ Annual Ministry Appeal.  As our Parish strives to unite in Christ with the faithful of the Diocese, we will see ourselves being good stewards of the many gifts the Lord provides each and every one of us.  This is a good way to respond to the call to go in peace and love and serve the Lord.
