A letter from our new Seminarian

I was raised in a Christian family in a small town in Western MA. My parents sent my older brother and younger sister and I to a Christian school and I later attended Gordon College in Wenham, MA. I have always been interested in learning more about Christ and this led me to many different mentors, books and different churches where I eventually grew into leadership positions while employed in the social work field.

Reading the mystics drew me to the Catholic Church and I immediately began discerning a call to military chaplaincy. A job offer with a new mental health organization brought me into the Diocese of Monterey, CA in January 2011 where I contacted the vocations director and was recently sent to St. Patrick’s Seminary by Bishop Garcia. My experience in social work and the mental health field combined with my experience in ministry leadership to form a desire to bring Christ to desperate people in difficult situations. The military suffers from a shortage of Catholic Chaplains and it is a “call within a call.” My father served in Vietnam and both of my grandfathers served in the Navy during WWII.  […]
