Father Michael Miller
Father Mike Miller, the Pastor of Sacred Heart, is the staff’s resident Midwesterner (he grew up in Richmond, Indiana!) Fr. Mike truly enjoys all the different festivals and seasons of the liturgical year and his playfulness and love of Christ help imbue those celebrations with joy and peace. Fr. Mike’s favorite Bible stories are David & Goliath (1 Sam 17), Jesus coming into the locked room (Jn 20), and the multiplication of the loaves and fishes (Mark 6) – all stories of deep faith and trust that God will provide. Sounds like Father Mike!

Fr. Mike has been tireless in promoting the parish mission and in fostering a spirit of prayer and Christ-centeredness in all the actions of Sacred Heart. In his “spare” time, Fr. Mike loves writing poems and fictional dialogues, as well as finding solitude in hiking or going to the desert. You can hear echoes of those passions in all his sermons!

Fr. Mike attended seminary at St. Patrick’s in Menlo Park, and he holds a PhD in Theology from GTU-Berkeley.

Reverend Lucas Pantoja
Father Lucas Pantoja, the Parochial Vicar of Sacred Heart, grew up in Michoacán, México. Fr. Lucas looks forward to special liturgies at Sacred Heart, such as the Easter Vigil, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Día de los Muertos – little wonder then that he helps oversee the church environment for those occasions! Though Fr. Lucas oversees the parish’s Spanish ministries, he ministers to the entire community – in fact, the youth group was blessed to have Fr. Lucas attend the 2005 and 2006 Yosemite retreat.

Fr. Lucas’ favorite passage in the Bible is where the disciples meet the risen Lord on the way to Emmaus and recognize him in the breaking of the bread (Luke 24:13-25). What a powerful reminder that we are called to personally encounter Christ through the sacraments – especially the Eucharist!

During his “down” time, Fr. Lucas likes listening to music and just “sharing life with people.”

Fr. Lucas attended Seminario Tridentino de Morelia for High School and College, Seminario Diocesano de Tijuana for philosophy, and St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park, California, for theology.

Religion that is pure and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their affliction and to keep oneself unstained by the world. (James 1:27)
